Clara Steen Skott diary, 1942-1946

October 12

1942 Warm + sunny in yard as Hans + I worked putting in new pump.  3 lb. box of candy from Hilda - I broke off a crown on first piece.  Baked honey cookies. Finished "Windswept"
1943.  Ironed, pressed, mended.  Got breakfast for K who came out for supper last eve + brot me chem. nutrients for soil-less garden.  Put up lunch for her + Frank who put in first full day for more than week.  Finished Lesson 8 in dansk.  Took up orange [tree?].
46' 67° 1944.  Ironed.  2 letters from Sig - one written Sept. 18!  Drove in, met Hans at 11:30.  We ate lunch in Vic Allen's apt. in the York with her,  soon leaving for Col.  Shopped all P.M.   Got brown shoes, fuschia gloves, blue + gold pin.  Needlework for Sig. Supper at Smorgasbord.  Dansk lesson. Hilda + K gave me lamp shade- TIRED.
1945.  Sp. Del. - pkg. of "Burnished Leaves" stationery from Hilda, cards from Anna Skott, Zille , Mrs Henkel, Olga  Walked to last of Pub. Sp. training course, 10-12.  Rode out with Mrs. [Toppy?].  Talked to Dr. Cartwright Final hope for work in [Glenary?] gone fro now.  Dr. Latane here to see Hans.  He has bronchitis.  Walked to Alex + back to get prescription. 
1946.  Went with Rev. Scratch to French Convent + Cathedral.  Took some snaps + a 2 few time pictures.  Saw orphan girls doing marvelous lace tablecloths, weaving, spinning, etc.  Kristine Wemmelund + K. Massboek gave me 7 lovely pink "mums".  To Morrison St. Circle for pics.  Tore hoes + skinned knee.
