1942 Canned last of pears, 1-1/2 qt. Did mending. Hans and Frank began extracting honey. Wrote Hilda. 1943 Cleaned up house, made custards, etc., packed. Waited 1/2 hour for Greyhound bus at Chanticleer. To Eau Claire thru lovely autumn woods. Hans met me at 7:50. We went to movie "For Whom the Bell Tolls" at Hotel Galloway. 1944 Nice day, but we stayed home except for a walk and call at P. Gribble's. Wrote K, F. and dansk letter to Flo. We read dansk. 1945 56 degrees Hans abed till 1 when he dressed, but lay down on cat. Fred and Daisy Rossiter here, Fred agreeing to find out what he can for Hans. Wrote MTT and 3 letters - Mrs. Coffin gave us Sunday paper - I can't get re-established on a post route. 1946 62 degrees We went to hospital. I walked all way. Hans doing O.K. Dr. Henke in Shanghai to meet his wife - Miss Marjorie Drury, just up from Shanghai. called on us.
