October 26 1942. 19° Froze very hard. Got more storm windows on, did last week's mending. Birthday card from Flo! letters from Hans, Dora. Wrote cards to Hans + Flo, letters to Helene, Comments, + H. Ec. Club news. 1943. About 34°. Cut out pajamas for Frank. Mrs. Rabe called at 10, for me to talk at guild! Walked in + back. I talked about my 2 recent trips. Got U.S.O. money from Mrs. John Kruse. Mrs. Zing brought hers in eve. Began reading "Young Man from Caracas" 48° 55° 1944. Baked bread. Was nearly at head of line to get gas ration coupon book, in Va. Utility Bldg. Went from Alex. to meet Hans on 4:15 bus. We walked to U.S.D.A., had supper with Mrs. Rost + Mr. Beng, shorter dansk lesson. Home at 11. 1945. Hans mailed pkg. to Denmark- 6 oz short of maximum 11 lb allowed. I made most of dimity pinafore apron like my princess dress. Dan Halock dropped in on way back to N.C. for lunch. He brot our 24 slides. I rode to P.O. with him. Made my white seersucker nightie. 39° 67° 1946 Pkg. of 3 alumnuses came, also airmail from Dora. I ironed, pressed, mended. In P.M. we took pedicab to country west of Peiping. Got some pictures. A street fair on in West City. Out 3 hours- I got very chilly.
