October 31 1942. Sunny. Frank melted more beeswax in kitchen. I baked gingerbread, did some cleaning, dug a bushel of "glads". Airmail to Hans in [Surry?], Va. Bought handmade tablecloth + chair sets of Bridget O'Neal, first Christmas gifts. 1943. Hans + I to church. I was S.S. Supt. 41 there. Had Jakie Chatt sing alone. Read + studied dansk. Hans + I took a walk. Wrote some cards. 1944. Rev. Holyoke came to complete funeral arrangements, all family in P.M. Uncle Christ, Esther Blomdahl + friend, Wm. Borsch, + Mabel Kankelfitz came just as my supper was prepared for 4. House full of callers all P.M. + eve. We got away to the funeral home a while. Kathryn came 9:30- Fred Malone, Wilbur + Don met her bus at Dubuque. 79+ 1945. Shoe rationing off. Had 9 hrs. or more of sleep. Made nearly all of 2 more peasant aprons. Went back to 16th St. place to have tooth checked. Dan + Ellen were here when I got back. I went with them to Mt. Vernon, Washin Museum, spinning house, + at wharf for first time. A wonderful October day. Some roses still in bloom also a holly tree, at Mt. Vernon. 70° 1946 Hans + I went to D our Hospital for check up. Back to 2 digitalis a day + he must be more careful to be less active. I did some mending, hemmed homespun cloth for dresser for my room. Back ached + have my first cold for 3 years. In eve we had "Bon Voyage" cake for Miss Mossbaek + Miss Wemmelund [illeg. Liu Ping AN], who leave for Denmark tomorrow. Also entertained Mr. + Mrs. Christensen, Mrs. Wang, Miss Bott, Mrs. Solling
