November 1 1942. Rain in AM. turned to snow in P.M. 49 at SS. Mrs. Stanke preached. Wrote 3 letters. Dora, Pauline. 1943. CLeaned up house, baked nut bread, + a triple batch of baking powder biscuit. Hans to Monticello for the day. Ph. Br. Achievement dinner here in eve- cr. chicken on biscuit, lime jello, str. beans, nut bread + pumpkin pie Mrs. Roberts made. 1944. Fine fall weather holds. Buchner's brought grandpa's body to house at 11. Rev. Holyoke had short service at house at 1:30; funeral at Buckhorn church at 2, Jr. Hicks sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" + O love that Wilt Not Let Me Go". Burial near Billy Siders. Overwhelmed with everyone's kindness, food, flowers, etc. 1945. Cleaned up the apt., baked bread + rolls, made Danish dessert pie a la mode. Fixed chicken, salad, + veg for dinner at 6- Rev. + Mrs. Clarke here. Much interested in pictures- Germany, Sig + elephants, etc. + coins. Hans + I sat in sun after he got back from Wash. I finished the 2 aprons. 37° 55 1946. Went to UNRRA office with 5 others in car, got Pao Ting Fu expense money; ricsha to Morrison St. On way back on foot, after getting some snapshots, I took snaps of a wedding (Mrs. Wang + I tried to see the bride_. and a very long funeral procession on Ha Ta Men St. Went to Fair or market, got red tray + goods for slippers. Our radiators had a flicker of heat, but their coal is too poor. The WASC hostel will be heated- so we surely will.
