1942 Only 45 at S.S. Was Supt. "Will be a good thing when gas rationing begins." Dr. Niles preached at church. wrote Hilda, Velma T, (7) and news for Cap. Tines and M. Tines. Met Z at 10:30 P.M. train. 1943 Up at 6:00, cooked pheasant for breakfast and finished packing inc. cheese, butter, jam, pickles, cookies, cake and honey for girls. K took us to 8 AM Milw. train. Took "El" to Evanston had lunch with Dr. Rockwell Smith in Garret B1 commons. "Liberty Limited" on Perm. R.R. Studied dansk. Slept on Pullman "Potter Palmer". 1944 74 degrees Did a big ironing while Hans' mother did my darning! Pressed a suit and put clean curtains up in kitchen. Grandma and I shopped a little in Alex, then we sat in sun on porch an hour or so. I began a doily for the Danish bazaar. 1945 I walked to Alexandria without a coat. To bank and "Week of Prayer". Got 2 cleaned dresses (my red and Sig's navy blue, to send to Denmark). Hans got tickets and reservations for Florida! To Danish Club at Pierce Hall; I run slides for Hans' pictures - Mrs. Jensen gave me "mums". 1946 44 degrees, 66 degrees more rain overnight. Cleared. I ironed. In P.M. I failed to find Lily Rasmussen, so went alone to Temple of Heaven. Got a guide. He and I each took several pictures. Stopped at PX on way home and got Toddy, etc. Saw boy wading, some coolies stripped to waist.
