1942 Colder. Baked bread, did some cleaning, finished Sandra Bell's dress and took it to her on way to M.C. Comm. mtg. at Long's in eve. Sent Hans airmail. 1943 Hans had to dress me and comb and braid my hair! Carried my arm in a sling and roasted in morning and eve. Breakfast on Com. Ave., shopped a little, waited for bus to Arlington. Lunch at Grace K's. We stopped in Clarendon. Kennedy and Sig came in from Fort for 7;30 dinner at Hilda's apt. Hans also. 1944 39 degrees, 57 degrees. Hans, his mother and I attended Christ Church (G. Washington's), going on bus. George and Lola MacLean here in P.M. Served coffee and cookies - Hans and I called on Sorensen's briefly in eve. Perry Gubble told us he had baby boy Oct. 17. 1945 Rainy morning, very chilly. Packed our suitcases, gave away nice mums, gave Mrs. Norberg our mailbox key to forward our letters. Walked to Dr. Abrahamson at 1, but he can do nothing with my bridge. We went on crowded bus to Wash. Left on Atlantic Coast Line at 4:40 with chair seats reserved. Slept fairly well. Dark before I could see much of Virginia. 1947 [sic] 36 degrees, 43 degrees. Rain again and much cooler. No heat in my room, but Hans' is comfortable. We finished first 2 sheets for the scenic views scrapbook. Hans at Y.M.C.A. for lunch with Jim Hunter and editor of "Christian Farmer". Lily Rasmussen came, but we decided not to shop. Got india stamps for Sig.
