1942 Juanita cleaned downstairs in A.M. I washed 6 new storm windows and gave them first coat of paint on one side. Registered 2 cars for gas rationing at high school, shopped, and waited till library was open. Tore up blue dress and pair of pants into rug rags. 1943 Since Signe phoned that Miss Kennedy can't go to chapel with me, Hilda and I slept till after 9. Left at 10 for Ft. Belvoir for dinner. Sig came back with us and we went to Archives Bldg. to see exhibition from Roosevelt's library. With Hans and Sig to Rossiter's for supper. Henry Beckman's 12 there. Slept at Cotton's with Hans. 1944 We baked 4 fruit (honey) cakes), ironed, mended. Worked on Hilda's coat lining. Finished second doily for danish club bazaar. 1945 69 degrees, 83 degrees. Sunny day in the "Sunshine City". No one wears coats. We registered at Chamber of Commerce, walked to Mirror Lake, Indian Shell Mound, Round Lake, Williams Park. Home at 3 to nap. Hans took pictures of palms, Spanish moss, rubber trees, tangerine and papaya trees, etc. Mrs. Story took us to the $1000000 pier in eve. Saw pelicans. 1946 Mended Hans' blue sweater. Mrs. Chamberlain called on us, said Hans is to work in Shanghai office later on. I typed in Mrs. Schrag's room while Hans went to hosp. for checkup. Lily R. and I walked to Morrison St. past circle, rode to Lantern St. I bought carved table lamp and place cards. Got tomato juice at PX. Mr. Wilson gave me Australian stamps.
