November 16 1942. Very windy. 62° in eve. Rain in night. Baked bread and honey ginger cake. Cut out apron. Not much good as was awake from 3 till nearly 6. 9 at C.R.C. in eve + I reminded eath to come. 28° 1943 Train nearly an hour late in Chicago. Surprised to see snow. Breakfast in Union Station. Madison on time 12:25. Margin of ice on lakes, + quiet water in Tenney Park, ice. Took streetcar to Celon Co. Drove home, got groceries. Frank home from Sunday, fortunately. 1944. Home at 12. Did some cleaning. Went to Red Cross at Abingdon 2 1/2 hrs. Hans home for a snatch of supper, then we went on 6:30 bus for our danish lesson. Home at 10:40- wonder if it pays for time it takes. 1945. Warm. stayed at Story's till 10. Found Walter Miller of Buckhorn (85). First drink of papaya juice- delicious! To "Jungle" along coast. Hans got first 2 films back- nice pictures of various tropical trees. Read in "Citizen Tom Paine". Wrote MTT. 1946 Typed letters all A.M. while Hans went to office for 400 000 CNC. In P.M. we went to Rasmussen's, got Lily to go with us to old Chinese city outside of Ho Ta Men, Flower St., Market St. We saw a "sleeping Buddha". Hans took pictures of other Buddhas, + at a Chinese home outside the wall.
