NOVEMBER 29 1942. Just Juanita & I to church. 47 at S.S. Hans called after dinner from Rockford, Ill. I called on Mrs. Roberts - then met Hans at 5:30 bus - first he has been home since Oct. 18. Kathryn met Miss Z's 10:30 train. 1943 Into pre-christmas swing. Got 1st pkg from Hilda. Ordered toys from M.W.K & I sent in total of 12 Readers' D. subs. I wrote R.C, did some cleaning, shopped in Middleton. Finally made my war chest report out $609.95. Wrapped 13 trees. 1944. Went to bank, then to Washington - and a misty rain fell! Got rose yarn for Sig, khaki yarn for Frank - and waited in line in needlework Dept! Got some of only outing flannel in Wash. for Hans. 1945 Shampooed my hair, drove to Alex. for money for more bonds. Rainy. Ironed and put up clean kitchen window curtains. Mrs. Norberg here for supper at 10:25 P.M. Hans and I met the Pa. train at Union Station from Ft. Dix where Signe was mustered out, with 60 days terminal leave. 1946 Another nasty gray day on the Yellow Sea. Finished reading book Miss Mosboek gave me. Slightly warmer as we near Shanghai, which helps as no heating system on ship. Nice meals. Hans went down to supper with me. Docked at 7:30. Self-important Chinese Customs Inspector kept me waiting for 1-1/2 hours as I had no new visa "no legal entry". Let us go finally. Got taxi to New Asia for CNC 15000. In rooms 123 and 145.
