1942. Hung big washing in basement. More snow. Baked raisin bread. Wayne W. here for dinner - had rabbit. Hans + I to town - got Christmas gift for his folks. Found I got no collision insurance. Tired. 42º 1943. Sunny day, tho cold in AM. By washing in late forenoon, I hung nearly all outdoors. Washed kitchen + hall windows + curtains. Finished wrapping apple trees, 35 in all. 1944 Thanksgiving in Virginia - no mail! Store not open! Hans stayed in bed all AM. - seemed to help his sinus. I cut out apron for Amanda + helped grandma make it. Cut out dress for Rosemary of Hilda's wool pieces. Grandma + I saw "Since You Went Away" at Uptown - To Sears, then dansk lesson at Fru Hanson's. 1945. Visited and baked bread and visited some more. (We didn't go to bed till 1:00 AM.). Signe brought us ivory bookmarks and set of 6 napkin rings. We shopped for food. Roast a turkey, etc. Mr. + Mrs. Werner and Carla here for regular Thanksgiving day dinner and pictures. 31.9º 49º 1946. Raucous blare of Ch. bugles woke me at 6! Soldiers in blue-padded uniforms marched in double quick. Breakfast with Carol Deyoe. We went with him + J. Hunter to Einbrak. Bldg. "Old Home Week" - (Canadian) Lewis, Art Grove, Galina Sminoff, Carroll DeYoe, Dr. O.S. Morgan, + others. I mailed play to Australia for H. Petty, got + filled out application blank for UNRRA employment. Cleaned 6 coat collars, etc. Hans moved in Room 123 with me. Dr. Morgan called.
