1942. Hans rode in to Madison with K + left for Saginaw, Mich. I mended, baked nut bread + choc. cake. Made sleeves in Helen Bain's blue dress Wrote Frank + Anna 1943. Sunny again. Frank not home for lunch till 1, as he + Ralph Davis welded his broken bicycle. Finished all 3 aprons, of lav + white dimity. Had to get Frank + his bike in eve. Wrote Hans a dansk letter. 26º 36º 1944. Walked to church. Rosebuds frozen outdoors. Read a long chapter in "Niels Ebbeson;" wrote Elsie, Emily H, + MTT. Hans in bed all eve. Hilda out for supper. We wrapped gifts. 1945 We all went to Washington. Signe and I each got new hats + shoes + she got black dress - her first "civvies." To Pub. Sp. Bureau mtg at Red Cross - we began work on re-vamped play. Saw 3 good rosebuds! 1946. A discouraging day. My interview scheduled at 10:30 with Fred Salana in Employment Office ran flat into UNRRA policy of hiring no more. Spent 2 hrs. in Duerst's office; he ran into same thing. Read in C.A. Beard's Am. Foreign Policy in the Making, which Sig sent her dad. Sorted pictures in eve.
