1942 Broadcast review of Everyday Nursing book from WHA. Got my Christmas gift from Hans - new bathrobe. Gave his fur coat to Russian relief. Mrs. Henkel and I viewed Orland Loomis' body in Capitol. Brought home Sig's summer clothes box. Began writing Xmas cards. 1943. Home for a day! Did some cleaning, lengthened another pajamas for Frank, still in bed. Began wrapping Christmas pkgs. 27° 40° 1944 With grandma to help, cleaning did not take long. Baked bread and choc. drop cookies. Embroidered and crocheted on Melba's dresser scarf - First letter from Frank for 11 days. He was out on ship a week. 1945. Actually had a Wash. Post delivered - after 6 attempts all fall. Awake from 3:30 on - felt punk all day. Must be from a little raw veg. I ate. Mr. and Mrs. N. Burhans called in PM, also Mrs. Norberg in eve. Sig gave talk on India to S.S. class and went to Mellon Art Gallery in P.M. 1946 Colder. I walked to Young-Allen apartments. Worked on picture-books most of day and wrote letter to Dora. Cold wind from Siberia. Went to bed early. Studied in '44 "Elements of Nutrition" by H.C. Sherman.
