1942 Baked bread and apple kuchen. Cleaned Miss Z's room. She went home on P.M. Took her suitcase to school and brought home our tree. Wrapped Frank's gifts for him. 1943. Up to [blank]. Sunny. Made gingerbread by 7, when K went to work. Walked to Henkel's and found her in bed with very bad cough. I made pink flannel slip. Frank got up and drove to Madison, trying to enlist in navy. In eve I read "Images in a Minor" by Sigrid [illegible]. 1944 28 deg-[?6 deg] Partly sunny. Washed all 6 window outside, and 3 inside, ironed kitchen curtains and put up. Sent $4 to Comm. Guild. Amanda phoned in eve: Emil Elissat died. Wrote 8 Christmas cards and mailed. Got a Virginia cedar tree and holly. 1945 Signe did the washing. I hung some outside. I washed bedroom windows and 1 in living room, also Venetian blind. Hans and Signe gave his talk on Germany for Program Surveys. 1946 Tried to find where Young Bing Li lived but no luck. Walked to end to Szechuen St. then got ricksha - Walked back. Saw a buffalo! But had no camera. Hotel ran out of oil so was cold from P.M. on.
