December 28 1942. Cold worse, so didn't go out on ice to annual 4H-Kiwanis banquet. Cut + made sleeves for my plaid cotton flannel dress. 1943. 20° Missed Kiwanis-4H banquet, tho Mrs. Barkholm offered to take me. Washed, hung sheets etc outside. Baked bread. Went to Guild- girls had to go home as their daddy hoe from an Oregon camp. Mrs. Van Taesel read "How Come Christmas?" 1944. Icy. Worked on tablecloth edge. Began reading from Werfel's "Embezzled Heaven". Started study of German all over again. 1945 Baked bread. Keeps me busy just with meals, etc. Wrote "My Cheek" 31° 42° 1946. Sunny. Ice visible on military grounds. Tried to find a notary for Hilda's birth certificate. Walked to offices of Shanghai POST + PRESS + China Weekly Review on Ave. Edward VII. Got assignment for a story on latter. Failed to find the dull blue yarn I want. So cold in eve I went to bed right after supper.
