1948. Kathryn back to Univ. classes again, but not home till 11 PM. I baked cream cake & oatmeal cookies. Surprise! Bess & Ernest Eder of Buffalo, Wyo. came up from Alice’s in Chi. at 4:40. Here for supper. We showed them our [Jap?]-Kodachromes. Took them to Wittenburg’s to sleep. 1949. Skiff of snow over ice gave me a hard spill at Scott’s backdoor. Demonstrated coddled eggs & honey custard for freshmen. Sophs. gave 2 dems. on care & tests for wool. I drove downtown after school. Helen Scott’s wedding to be Jan 29. 0º 1950 More ironing, vacuumed rug, etc. Slept 4 hrs. last night—after lunch felt bad, took nap. No supper. Did some needlepoint. Read in Van Loon’’s “Report to St. Peter.” 20º 1951. Snowed 6 inches more! Haus left before 7 for Jefferson. Got back as far as Weidemann’s. I baked raisin bread. Put new figured foille bottom on walnut chair. K scoured & waxed K’s linoleum. 1951. Fairly mild day. I sent off order. Got my 10.98 “free” dress from F.F. Altered (shortened) back & front of blouse. Signe here in PM & for supper. Frank came 2 AM. His bus nearly 3 hrs. late .
