July 10 1948 Awake from 4. Made bread at 5, cleaned whole apt. Got machine from Betty and nearly finished dress. Hans home 12:30, Frank at 6. At library 2-5 (library board) and 7-10. 1949 Too many people for the small space for church services. Nothing to see but water. Read another danish story, played "500". Walked a windy deck. 1950 Only slept hour or 2 all night. Hans left for Manitowoc at 6:20. I made butterhorn rolls for dinner for 14 Evangelical preachers, pressure cooked hours (last eve) and helped Hazel and May cook and serve it. Edith K and Pat K waited on tables. Alice O. and Doris B. cleaned up. All went fine. Cleared 5 qts. Nap in PM. Froze 1 pkg peas. 1951 Mostly cloudy. Hoed, gave 3 lawn chairs another coat varnish, worked in big garden an hr. Froze 5 pkg beans and peas from there. Called on Ella (Schmidt) and Joe Virnig in eve. Louie and Tillie Miller there. Don Siders there a few minutes. 1952 Went to Hts garden for peas and beans. Froze 2 pkg. beans, 1 of peas. Ground too hard to work. In PM painted 1-1/3 garage doors, first coat. In eve I took Deone Rabe to League of Women Voters at Summers'. Phyllis Meyer told of Middleton schools past present, future.
