July 21 1948 Jay and Edith left after 8 for Ames. I baked wh. wh. raisin bread. K and I did a huge washing. Very hot. Worked 3 hrs. in library. Marilyn Gebin read to 7 kids and made filing cards. 1949 Cold, cloudy. Walk with Anne to Mette's r.r. station in A.M., with Tante Kathrine around village in P.M. and with Chris also in eve, thru other house, to see more digg, etc. Feather beds again - we need them. 1950 70 degree high. Didn't sleep 2-4 so slept in P.M. Got new G.E. alarm clock from Monday coffee (illegible) Cleaned apt. Called on Mary Bachman (& 6 mo. girl) and Jean (name?). Froze 2 pkg snap beans. 1951 Still not much good. Very hot. We run furnace fan all P.M. I cooked a chicken, made apple crisp. Nap in P.M. We went to garden. Muddy, as heavy rain from 3 to 9. Mrs. Hofstad and her mother brought me iris (blue stitch edge). 1952 93 degrees. Didn't sleep till 1 and then took a phenylbarb. Painted 8 to 11, the west and north window frames, and south in late P.M. Tank and (blank) put in soil pipes in basement. Hot and humid. Called on Offerdahl in eve (who told Degno of our apt.) Also at Robt. Salems.
