August 1 1948 Awake from 5:15. Rev. W. here for breakfast. We went to church, his first regular sermon. Nap after dinner, then we went to garden. I picked beans, sprayed spuds. Got more stuff from attic. Packed stuff into car. Larry Johnson and Millie E. here to see Frank. 1949 Still windy and cold. Tante Kathrine canned Solbarsoft. We wrote letters. Chris and Aunt K and we went to Haderslev in P.M. In museum - ancient houses, mill, murals and artifacts in main bldg. 1950 Thru washing by 9. Nice and sunny, cooler in P.M. Put on mosquito dope to work in garden. In P.M. rode with Mrs. Klunick to guild tea, where I sold greeting cards. Mel Jacobson's new house burned; I took clothing and food with Deone Rabe to Lemcke cottage for them. 1951 Baked whole wheat bread. Frank and I picked Vold's beans and I froze 10 pts again. 7:30 to 11 at V. Voths where we made out guild programs for year. E. Connell, V.W. (Sewill?) and Hofstad there. 1952 Cleaned apt., packed, finished OPS record (last hr. before I left for train!) Got my coach reservation; Sig and Marian took me to Portage Dairy Queen there (made of good skim milk). Boarded Olympian Hiawatha 6:15 P.M. Stops LaCrosse, Winona, Red Wing, St. Paul, Mpls - walked on platform there.
