August 13 1948 Packed up after breakfast and left Muscoda at 8. Hans called on Harold Olson then we came home south of the Wis. R. A little brake trouble, Hanson brought lib. rebound books back. Oskar brought his cornbinder and sold it; was here for supper. I washed hair, etc. 1949 Out to garden with Elfrieda, some from our seeds. Out quite a ways among strips of land which constitutes so called farms. I baked cake of ready-mix "best smell for years" and made jello. Agnes' brother and family guests. Claus talks good English. 1950 Velva's left at 5:15. I saw them off then went back to bed till 8. About 11 we left for Minn. Crossed St. Croix at Taylor's Falls and Interstate Park. Picnic lunch Forest Lake. To see Jay and Edith at Mary Alice Harvey's near Circle Pines. I drove home via Osceola and Dresser. Finished "Came the Comrade". 1951 Rain - after I irrigated asters last eve! Finished first sunbonnet baby dish towel. Finished "The Bishop's Mantle". 1952 Visiting the order of the day. Anna's friend of 50 yrs ago came from Cascadia - Mrs. Clymer. Cloudy and cooler, but comfortable. Did some needlepoint and took nap.
