August 20 1948 We took turns driving and napping. 2 hrs in Allegheny Valley mists, crossed Ohio, slept in Walkerton, Ohio. A hard day's driving. 1949 Walked to Hamburg Bohnhof for breakfast. Streetcar to Altona. Fluchling conductress. Walked to edge of Elbe River. Saw Hamburg docks on way out. Train to Niebull where we stayed at Jacob Bossen's Gasthof. In eve schoolmaster's son and we visited with English teacher. A region of 5 languages. 1950 45 to 63 degrees. I went to church. Rev. Fairlle preached. Signe, just home from her 2" summer at Columbia, out all day. We took her back after supper. We had furnace fire! Played canasta and 500 in PM, Lex. rummy in eve. 1951 Did 9 day washing, but it rained on it. Nap. Hans and I to garden for corn. Froze 1-1/2 qt. In eve to Marcus Schwab's where 2 Mrs. Sakinson's, Claire Bell, Mary Theilke and I planned details of flower show. 1952 Off train at 1:30 at Aberdeen, So. Dak. where Aug. and Anna met me and took out to their home at Wetonka. Slept till 7:30, again 5-6. We went to Alvin's, 2 red haired Randolph 3 and LaVaughn 1-1/2. To Whitestone Mem. Park, No. Dak. where we had good picnic. Stone collection. Hot and dry.
