August 26 1948 Surprise! Elvin Duerst and his mother and father (Jake) of McMinnville, Ore. here an hr. - Had pineapple sundae and lemonade at apt. Heat no less, but a little cloudy in P.M. Sewed lace on nylon dress. Got refrig. Prin. Scott and cooks and I had hot lunch comm. mtg. 1949 Did ironing, took aunt K's pic - 1st on 3" film and can get no more. German B & W pics came from Padborg. Sunned my foot - one place with skin peeling - first in Europe. Hans took long ride on Metta's bicycle coming back to Leste on 7:00 bus. 1950 Canned 4-1/2 qt. peaches, cleaned up house. Hans (and K and Mr. Vold) finished hauling out dirt from basement. Signe out for supper. I made cherry pie, had beans from our garden, tomatoes and potatoes from Volds. We 4 to Owen's, in hard rain, Wayne there, 2 wks at C. McCoy. 1951 79 degrees No church. Hans helped paint the church lobby. I helped in P.M. using roller on hall over stairway. Frank and I to garden in AM. Got last corn, a few tomatoes and limas. Dan Hallock brought us corn. Froze 4-1/2 qt. First temp. above normal since Aug. 2. 1952 Awake from 4, but slept 1 hr. in PM. Canned 8 pt. peaches, worked at office 1-1/4 hr. in AM on books 2 hrs. in eve. Got my Xmas card samples from Clare Druffel and sold a few worth at Guild tea at L. Anderson's in yard.
