August 31 1948 My 8:45 class of freshmen changed to 9:45, leaving me no period "in between" classes. Freshmen started plain seams. Hot again. Had new gasket put on pressure cooker, then I canned 8 pt. tomatoes (which Carl Olson's gave us). 1949 After breakfast at Hotel Kikkenborg, Bramminge, just happened to get to station for 9 o'clock train to Silkeborg, where we had dinner, sat on park bench and walked a bit. Rode to [Bons?] and stayed at [Jernbane?] Hotel. Only a peep of sun when Hans got pic of horse over a [Hestefid?] sign. Wrote German story for MTT. 1950 Cleared, so finished drying clothes and ironed. K. working on blouses. New blue shingles going on south side of roof. In eve, read all of Marguerite Bros' "Su-mei's Golden Year". 1951 Canned 3-1/2 qt. pears. McChesney's men finish frame and roof (sheeting) and windows in Univ. Ave. garage. In eve to Thielke's for order for children's things. Hans is to work for Capitol Implement Co. 1952 Kathryn and I slept together at Velma's. She works for Clinton Co. in Maq. We went to Monmouth Church with Teeple's whole clan to Olga's lawn for picnic. - turkey. 26 of us - visit. Television in eve. 92 degrees.
