OCTOBER 11
1948 Telegram and letter from Hilda for my 60th birthday. First word from Frank since he went West 10 days ago. Soph. girls made apple crisp and pie from their sulfured apples. Hans and I to Avoca Lutheran Church in eve with pics.
1949. Evergreen stationery from Sig. 13 birthday cards. Washed spare bedroom floor, rest of cupboard and glassware, bathroom floor. At Committee Mtg. from Woman's Club at Mrs. Otto Muetz for Newcomers' Club - my brain child. Coffee and do-nuts! Call from Mrs. Arthur Ames. Are gone to fill Methodist pulpit Sunday!
70 degrees 1950. Fine day. 10 birthday cards so far - FM radio from Hans, Sig and K. Hans home for rest of week, painting. I painted 3 north windows outside upstairs - but sprained my left wrist. Also 3 storm windows. Made Guild calls on Pat Kenyon, Hazel Z and E. Hallock. Got Alice Olson and we went to church to confer with Geo. Hofstad on shelves.
1951 63rd birthday - telegram from Hilda. Took write ups of last night and Guild to MTT. Plasticized bathroom floor, vacuumed rug, baked rolls and cake. Beautiful day. Took Guild Trav. basket to Mrs. Bittner, also FF. 11 cards for birthday - 3 hdkfs. K and Sig and Rabe's here for supper. Deone brought lb. cheese, K. iris stationery, Sig 22 tulip bulbs. To Garden Club at Dohman's. Prof Beck talked on house plants.
1952 64th birthday - K had Sawyer's bring me a "Happy Birthday" cake. Did more carpenter work on quarterrounds, finished puttying, bought lite bulbs. Worked at Branch 1 : 3:15, went with Sig and Audrey on airflight from Morey's to Wis. [Dells?], and  back thru Madison, 4 to 5. Treated Frank and 3 young boy helpers at 2121 to ice cream and cake and pics. [illegible]
