Clara Steen Skott diary, 1948-1952

December 25

1948. Signe gave me tray with Aunt Minnie's cross stitch apron! K gave us set of letters, etc. to fix up movie films. Slept 10 hrs! Besides nap in PM. Baked raisin bread + rolls, made peanut brittle, mince pie. Called on Volds in eve.
1949. Awake 7-4 or more. Owen + Kae came out on bus, Sig + Kae + I walked to church at 10. Roast duck dinner. Kae brought salad. We played Canasta in P.M. Kae + Owen went home - 3026 Atwood Ave. on 6 o'clock bus, Sig at 950. Gifts: pr. percale sheets, 3 pr. curtains, 12 glasses Shish
0º 1950. Up at 7 after good sleep. Snowed all day. I baked 2 pies, roasted duck. Kids played pinochle  + canasta, chess. My leg is worse. Went to Vold's for evening dessert + visit. Frank back to Rockford, left here 6:15 bus. Hilda + Sig on 10:30 to Madison, Hilda to go to C.B. in morning. First Christmas since 1947 that all were home.
1951. Slept after 1:30 with aid of sedative - then we let stoker get empty + smoke filled house. K got most of dinner. I took needed nap. Hans took Frank + Sig in at 5. 
1952. Up 7:30. Signe, Frank, K. here for roast turkey (1/2 Beltsville White). Fruit cake from Amanda. Did a bit of needlepoint.
Gave K. dishes + various things to fit up Apt in Muscatine. 
Called on Anna May. I typed labels 1/2 hr.
