JANUARY 6 1917. Drs. Ady and Royal examined George's injury, and found it to be an impacted fracture of the femur in hip joint. I baked bread an pumpkin pie. Saturday cleaning. Quilted. I beat Leslie 2 games in crokinole, then a tie! 1918. I got mail from post-office, with letter telling of Hans' appointment as Co. Emergency Food Agent in Clay Co. South Dakota. Busy with plans for the change. Zero at 9:30 a.m. Sunny, but sharp. Wrote to mamma. Helen, Helena, and Sis. 1919. A grand winter day. Thawed in P.M. Hans home all day, in bed most of time. I walked to town in morning for "flu" pills for him and again to P.O. in P.M. I washed Hans' sweater, baked quick cinnamon bread, mopped, sewed on my blue wool dress. Letter from Sis. 1920. Leslie and the folks drove to Muscatine, mamma to Home Bureau meeting + luncheon. I got dinner for George and Lewis Luse, washed for baby, crocheted on my big centerpiece. Card from Hans and photo of Herman and Georgia. Wrote to Miss Clark and card to Adela. 24º. Snowed. 1921. Hans had feverish night, so we didn't get up till 6. Cooking takes too much of my time. Made Hilda apron from old blue percale dress of Maud's. Oscar broke piston on my wash-engine where Hans was cleaning it up. Mild day.
