MEMORANDA 19 Bagley, Minnesota. 1918. Splendid sleighing continuously all month. Many, many sled-loads of wood came to town daily, some 2-cord ones and a few oxen-drawn. Elsewhere severe fuel shortage prevails, and National Fuel Administrator closes stores, etc. for shorter hours. Vermilion, S.D. 1919. Very mild, warm, and sunny month. Many, many truck- and wagon loads of grain are marketed here daily. Many Clay Co. farmers had 1918 labor incomes of from $4000 to $9000, and one had $12000. West Liberty, Iowa. 1920. Continued steady winter weather, with a good deal of snow. Hilda and I visiting at Elmenhurst Farm, also canning beef and apples, and sewing to make profitable use of my time. Hans visited us twice. 19
