March 3 1917. Had sore throat- almost tonsilitis- but did Saturday work, wrote a story and crocheted a roll-stitch medallion. 1918. Too muddy to go to church. Walked down to see new bridge north of Elmenhurst with papa and mamma. Took pictures of boys' $500 holstein cow Lady Helen, and colt Snips with cat. Wrote circle letter, and to Hazel S. and Hans' mother. Papa walked to town to go to his Farm Bureau Organization work. 1919. Transplanted tomato plants- some have 6 leaves- and planted ground cherry seeds. Baked prune-hickory-nut Himmels Futter. Cleaned and pressed pr. of trousers. Stained brown reed basket and new handle Hans put in carpet sweeper. Crocheted and embroidered. Cold and windy. We spent evening at "Chesty" Miller's. 1920. Got up at ten for the day, and got us something to eat. Hans took Adela to Elwood in P.M. to go to Maquoketa with Amanda. Roads muddy. I feel quite weak. Papa sent me check for $1600, a share he is giving Sis, Chas, Blaine, Herman, and I each. 1921. Weather mild, roads good, no mud about. Got housework done up in good shape. Signe awake all time after 6:30 P.M. till after midnight except about fifteen minutes I got to sleep. This five hours of sleep at night isn't enough for me but it's all I get lately.
