March 18 1917. Roads so bad none of us went to church but papa, who walked. Sleepy. Didn't do much. 1918. Letter from mamma. Baked oatmeal bread, scrubbed front porch (it took 6 pails of water), and cleaned up bathroom in A.M. Phone put in- 325W- and electric lights connected. Men are working on cistern and cleaning up mess in backyard. We got rest of things, Hans' trunk, etc. from Chausee's in our Ford. 1919. Baked Ardee and graham bread and a pumpkin pie. Didn't feel very well. Took a nap. Crocheted on braid, started crocheting bib. Circle letter came- before I began cooking for it. Hans made first of set of wood bed-supports to raise bed several inches. 1920. Used my new flat irons a little, baked raisin and pumpkin pies, did some straightening and putting away, unpacked my new set of dishes. Two inches of snow fell before we got up, and it rained and thundered in P.M. Melted snow for soft water. 1921. Oscar left us for a while. Adela gave Signe her bottle in evening and got her to sleep by 9:30 for once, and I got 7 whole hours of sleep. Set my first hen- tho many wanted to sooner.
