April 3 1917. Had sore throat, my old trouble, making my back tired and me good-for-nothing. Cut out and started making Helen's yellow-flowered silky "Junior bouquet" dress. Papa was in Des Moines at Iowa Aq. Conference for increased food production. 1918. I made outline for talk on using substitutes for wheat. Anna and I went to Meberg's with Mrs. Tjaden to W.F.M.S. of Methodist church. Met many women - good old Methodist crowd. Crocheted on bedspread lace. 1919. Hans and Amanda did a ten days' washing while I bossed the job and helped a bit. Also baked bread. Crocheted. Helped Hans sow some more seed in hot bed, also planted flower seeds in one porch box. Finished reading "Eyes of the World". 1920. Men all picking corn at Skott's all day, also Adela after morning work was done. I baked Hilda's first birthday cake, "Ice Cream Cake"; ironed last 3 curtains and put several up; baked bread; did some mending; cleaned our bedroom. Sunny in morning. 1921. High wind. Alfred was home for the day (rode Queen 14 mi, + back). Finished letter to Aunt Emma began 3 wks ago + wrote August + Anna. Signe began program of sleeping from 9 to 3 at nights - best yet.
