May 4 1917. Snowing when we got up. Cleared in P.M. I cleaned cupboards, mopped, baked two cakes, embroidered designs in green silk and gold beads on new waist. Got my first telegram: from Hans "Will come sometime Sunday. Going home. Back to Granger Tues." 1918. Hot. We both shelled corn about three hours, finishing the 4 bu. seed, which Hans expressed to his father. I baked wheatless cake; cut up a bushel of Carma potatoes for seed. Letter from Helena and circle letter. We planted the potatoes in our far garden and row of Early sweet corn. 1919. Getting rid of my cold. Home all day except for a little Ford ride about town in P.M. Hilda already has learned to cry when Ford stops! Wrote to mamma and papa. Letter from Millie and Aunt Emma. Discarded T-band at last. 1920. Letter + tatting from Helen. Got stuck nearly to top of big hill beyond John Scott's, coming home with big load of buttermilk- out of gas. Walked home. It began to rain, so I didn't wash till P.M. Good sized washing, pr. of blankets & sheets, etc. Started another hen off with chicks. Made 2 1/2 qt. beet relish. 1921. Washed flannels, made bread. Signe was awake from 12 to 2:00 A.M. and I didn't get my sleep made up except that I slept till breakfast time. Took off 2 hens with 28 chicks, one a 100% hatch of 15. Let all chicks run loose in sun.
