May 24 1917. Finished my set of a half-dozen napkins. My "stories" come back as usual, but I sent some off again. 1918. Men put in concrete sidewalks along this property. I ironed 3 hrs., mended, washed 4 prs. khaki trousers, crocheted 3 daisies. Mrs. Schriner called. Worked a little while in big garden. 1919. We got up at 4:00 A.M. I bathed and fed Hilda then we left Vermillion at 5:48. Amanda steadying the basket holding Hilda, in the back seat of Ford. We lunched by the way. Stopped at 4:00 P.M. for Helena at Wilson's near Jewell. Threatened rain. We lost a new rear tire. Roads good in some places, but bad near Jewell. We travelled late, Hilda sleeping most of time. 1920. Hans + Jim in town most of day. Constance and I straightened storeroom; I repainted front stairway, and made Hilda an everyday crepe Gertrude. 1921. Minnie went to town in A.M. with Hayman's, so we washed in P.M. Hot. Above 90°. Had Signe on porch all P.M. A few drops of rain in eve, at last. Wrote to Amanda and Laura Seward. New circle letter, from some '15 girls.
