June 19 1917. Another shower, so Hans did not go to work early. After dinner, I walked to Beaker's, took Hazel's picture, and brought back 21 tomato plants Mrs. B. gave me. Hans and I walked to Ole's for milk in the evening. 1918. Washed and polished the Ford, then, with Mrs. Tjaden, Lowell, and Eleanor, started to Meckling. More than half way there, the steering wheel went bad and we landed in a ditch right side up. Some women took us to Meckling, where I arranged for a canning demonstration. We came back on train. I got garageman to get Ford out. I drove her back, slowly, to garage. Dinner at Tjadens'. Went with Mrs. T to Home Missionary Society at S.A.E. house with Mrs. Perkins. I ironed. Dr + Mrs. Thomas called. 1919. Up at 9:00! Washed for Hilda, mended. Mrs. McKenzie called. Wrote to Edith B and card to Aunt Hattie. Heavy shower in P.M. 1920. Canned 2 qt. strawberry-pineapple conserve. Washed out clothes for Hilda. She is not very well. Mopped; went to field with Hans for the afternoon, where I napped in the cool shade, then picked wild gooseberries and helped replant lima beans and sunflowers. Hans planted sorghum. June 20 1921. Hans' father + mother and we went to Clinton Co. Farm Bureau picnic at CO. Farm; near Charlotte. We went via Maquoketa, Preston + Goose Lake; home via Delmar. Senator Kenyon and Miss Knowles talked. Saw Julia Brakke, "Dad" [Wine?] and Mary Harrington Wilkinson F.H.A.
