June 25 1917. A good rain in the night. After dinner I "took a Norsk lesson" from Jennie Iverson. Mrs. I. gave me eggs and can of cream. Baked more oatmeal cookies- Hans' favorite. 1918. Washed- fine wash day. Scrubbed dust from front porch and out of window sills. Made a convalescent robe in 3 hrs- a vivid orange, olive green and black striped affair- will kill or cure some soldier. Visited with Mrs. Ryan, another Elk. Pt. summer school student, Mrs. Lang, Mrs. Leyman, Mrs. Tjaden on porch in eve. 1919. Only got a little ironing done. Hilda slept all forenoon, then was awake till after midnight. Margaret + Lillian Westling here in P.M. Walked to garden again + pulled weeds in eve. 1920. Letter from Aunt Emma. Had first carrots. Finished Hilda's blue coat, cut out and made most of striped blue gingham apron-dress for her. Hans and I walked to Mrs. Ehlers' funeral at twelve. Alf. Ruggeberg's stopped here a few minutes, also Julius Ehlers', from Oelwein for the funeral. June 26 1921. New beans for dinner. We made our first cream cheese, an 8# one. At 11, just as I lay down to sleep, papa phoned from Truman Gregory's, and Hans went for them in Ford. They got caught in rain yesterday near Delmar in their new Dodge. Shower in P.M. Called off church in eve, as looked so rainy.
