AUGUST 3 1917. Hans got irrigation pipe fixed up in school garden. I held hose to water corn. We went to the lake, but the water was quite cool. Mended some. Had light frost in morning - no damage. Just seven weeks since the last frost. 1918. Canned 2 qts. each of tomatoes, beans, apple butter, and 1 of apples. Very hot and dusty. Tjaden's are back from vacation. I blistered my foot with boiling water. Bought material and made knitting bag for mamma's birthday. We "cooled off" in Bluff cemetery in eve. 1919. A hot Sunday. We got to Ufford's when they were eating dinner and stayed till after supper on the porch of their new house. Faced big wind home, but got no rain. 1920. Thru washing by 10:15 and had to be my own mechanic too. Got Ford full - 50 gal. of buttermilk, from creamery in little more than half hour. Did some mending - and letting out a couple skirt bands!
