AUGUST 7 1917. I washed - and it sprinkled! Hans brought in buckets of vegetables from school garden and helped prepare them. I canned 1 1/2 qt. peas, 1 1/2 qt. beet & lettuce greens, 1 qt carrot pickles, and 1 pt. beet pickles. I went to Red Cross meeting in P.M. Mrs. Mills of Crookston talked. Hans makes regular workshop in kitchen - shavings, sawdust, etc. 1918. Rained from midnight on all day long - fine. I scrubbed dust off front porch, and cleaned it out of dusty house. Baked apple pudding, corn bread, and quick cinnamon bread. Had our first cabbage and watermelon. Finished dress for 10 yr. old French girl. Letter from Florence. 1919. We canned 6 qt. corn and sewed. Hans is at home very little lately, he is so busy on Fair publicity work, etc. I wrote in circle letter. 1920. Letter from Myrtle Nelson and card from Mrs. Keck. Tired. Constance working again. Did some mending. Drove to Busch's to get Jim in evening after threshing. 664 bu oats from our 20 A. here. 1921. Up in time for breakfast at Elmenhurst. Sat in swing with baby in green shady yard. Sis' all drove in at 11. 12 for dinner. We left at 3, bringing old organ. Stopped at Obey's in Tipton. Home at 8. Amanda, Adela, Minnie. Irene Hoist, Alfred & Oskar run the ranch while we were gone.
