SEPTEMBER 16 1917. Rev. Dale talked on labor problems at church. We took a nap in P.M. Read, etc. Helen Hoch and Margaret Oftelee, other grade teachers, here in evening to see our girls. A warm day. 1918. I washed front room windows, dry cleaned two suits for Hans, did a bunch of mending. Started to read "The Luck of the Irish" by Harold McGrath. Hans and I picked navy beans in garden till dark. 1919. Mopped and did other clean-up jobs, finished ironing. Canned nearly 3 qt. tomato catsup, 3 qt. of yellow tomato preserves, and 1 qt. soup. Got letter from Sis, still at Fairfield, and card from Helena, teaching near State Center. Wrote circle letter. 1920. Helena and I got sack of apples from Warren's. Cleaned up our bedroom, and cold packed 9 qt grapes, 2 qt. applesauce and 4 pt. Seckel pear pickles. 6 for dinner, 5 for supper. Baked oatmeal cookies. We pulped more grapes. I mended overalls. In evening we took Helena to Olga's. 1921. We baked bread, getting it done at 10 P.M! Still rained a little. More mending. Got out my big crocheted doily I hadn't touched since we lived here and worked on it for a while. Too hot in sewing room to work there.
