October 31 1917. Letter from Helena that Amanda is not in school- too much going on for her good. I canned a quart of apple peeling juice- sugar too scarce to make jelly now. Mended socks, hemstitched an hour. Wrote to mamma. 1918. Got a 10 days' washing out before noon. Mopped, etc. Finished kimono with finish of blue French knots and smocking. Walked to town in P.M. Hans out in country all day and stayed at Joel Dahlberg's all night. August brought in load of cobs from Jasperson's and stayed for supper. 1919. Helped Hans with Hallowe'en decorations at Hall again in morning. Went to Boy's Pig clubs Sale in P.M. 30 head selling for [$87?] average. Boys' program in evening drew biggest crowd ever in Garfield Hall. Everything fine except. belt on movie machine broke. Hans + boys all feel good. 1920. A dark rainy Sunday. We got stove pipe connections up for our Round Oak stove. Harry came back in the afternoon- here's hoping this morning will be my last milking. 19
