DECEMBER 31 1917. Hans helped with our two weeks' washing, then he started making me a wash bench. I hung all the washing upstairs by fire. Finished hemstitching second side of tablecloth. 1918. Below zero for first time this season, -4°. Snowed, too, in eve. for first real snow of season. Announcement of Walter Ellis Scott, born Dec. 27. I washed, including dining room curtains at last, and blankets, etc. Went to town in P.M. in Ford with Hans, when he finally got her started. He and Mr Haines of Brookings went to Garfield Twp. and stayed all night. I worked on inventory. 1919. Turned cold in evening. Did some ironing and mending. Finished Hilda's dress. Hilda got knitted cap from Myrtle Nelson and h'dk'f + letter from Adela + Aunt Emma. Hans came from Vermilion, getting here in evening about 9, He has quit as County Agent in Dakota. 1920. Canned 5 qt. pumpkin, making 400 1/2 qt. for this year. Slept more than an hour in P.M. as I've been missing so many days napping. Did a little mending. Got circleletter and New Year card from Emma Reno. 19
