April 27 1936. Rainy day, much needed. Sewed a bit, Hans home till after dinner. Made marshmallow roll at Lillian Maxwell's in P.M. Jr. Bible Class at church in eve; 9 there— Rainy. Decided to try mens' & women's classes. 1937. Took Pauline & Rita to last 4H training school—cake & cookies—at Mrs. Humke in Dubuque. Miss Swinney's last mtg. with us. Shopped a bit. 1938. Summery. Went to Middleton without wrap after school in eve; moved my sedums, iris, bittersweet & 3 phlox. Did huge washing. 3 rugs, curtains, etc. Had fresh rhubarb sauce. 1939. First purple iris in bloom. Thru ironing by 9:30. Mended. Made mince meat cookies. L.W. Parman's here in eve. Read in "Stagecoach & Tavern Tales of the Old Northwest". Letters to Hans & P.R. Miller's. Furnace fire. 19
