May 4 19 Felt punk from broken rest. Dr. came to see Hans in P.M. I began sheet tent steaming for both of us & continue infrared rays for rheumatic joints. 19 Getting a cold. Planned to go to Dyersville till phone call postponed it. First fresh asparagus. Hans talked on cold storage lockers at WKKB. 19 Asparagus every day. Wrote Mrs. Ande (who has baby girl. [Illegible] plowed my garden space in A.M. I moved the woodpile, got him his dinner, walked to mailbox twice; K & I planted 2 long rows of early potatoes, lettuce, spinach, & beets. WHMS in eve at Mrs. Shields', 651 W. Main St. I poured tea, talked on Iran. Rain. 19 Ironed a dozen napkins (Signe finally found from a year ago) etc. Service man had disconnected my oven, so baked cake in kerosene stove! To card party in eve at Pheasant Branch. 19
