May 9 1936. Girls did the ironing and Signe scrubbed church kitchen for me. I made her shorts; big rain in P.M. My hobby poem in Dubuque paper. Read. 1937. Got Mr. Hallett to be S.S. Supt Kathryn & Frank, Hans & I left at 7:45 for Whittier where rest of them went to S.S. I at Pearson's. We had big dinner there & ice cream, etc. then went to greet Hans' mother. Tired from long trip. 1938. Hilda took Frank to Waubeesa for the week. Kathryn started to Middleton High School, first time the 4 children have been in 4 schools. Unpacked cedar chest, hung more pictures, planted 2 rows potatoes & 2 rows salsify. Wrote Jennie Maxwell & Hans. Baked bread. 1939. Fine washday. Big washing. We did ironing, too. Moved some violet & goldenrod plants. Hans phoned from Barron. 19
