May 20 19 Very windy. Hans not very well yet, but we went to Dubuque in P.M. Read "Song of the Cardinal" in eve. To Jennie Maxwell's in A.M. for her to take my place as sec. of W.H.M.S. 19 Chilly. Mrs. W.B. Miller here in A.M. Darned. At Home Bureau Achievement Day in P.M.—heard Mrs. [Sayr?] Then to Lyle Miller's for Bingo with buttermaker's wives & banquet at Odd Fellows' Hall. Pross' there. I read letter from Hans. 19 Wet, but I planted a row each of cabbage and tomato plants, and K helped me put in 2 rows lima beans. We walked to Schmidts' in eve to get plants, then I set out early cabbage pansy plants. Finished crocheting rose yam beet. 19 Baked bread (by noon) & cake Letter from Wilbur [Sidles?] Shortened blue georgette dress & slip. Hans home at noon. Hat. He, Frank & I to Madison to pay for my stove, get Frank shoes & graduation dress for K. Shower in night. 19
