May 21 1936. Baked layer cake, finished Kathryn's green rayon dress, but thus missed going along with Hans to Buckhorn. His mother entertained Guild Commencement in eve. 1937. Wrote Helene & news for C.R. Gazette. Canned 1 pt asparagus. Warmer finally. Got 7 letter. Nearly finished smock. Wrote Hans & 7. 1938 Baked 2 pies, then Signe and I went to Madison. Left her in City library then drove to Cottage Grove for Frank, who took 8th grade exams there. He and I planted melons, 4 rows sweet corn. 1939 Baked 2 pies, made salads & salad dressing, ice cream, etc—then no company. except Lucille Swingle for supper. All of us but Signe took ride in boat "Badger" on Lake Mendota in P.M. Called on Mrs. George Zeigler, who had stroke—took her tulips. Fine rain. 19
