June 4 1936. Saw Mrs. Gilson at Postville Quite cold but got up to 80° in P.M. Finished up Oelwein & did pumps at Maynard. Randalia & Donna Jet; dinner at West Union Cafe. Stayed at a "Garden" Tourist Camp at Postville—a remodeled barn. Hans had big mtg. 1937. Cloudy & chilly. 12 of us went to Garden Club breakfast in Tourist Park in Dubuque. Mrs. Reeder, Mrs. Randall & I rode with Eva W. Visited 2 iris gardens. Home at 12. Finished Signe's slip, let out 2 light trousers for Hans. Letter from Hilda who has 2 jobs in Eau Claire. Wrote Herman. 1938. Up early & baked cake, etc. Took Frank to his Dane Co. 8th grade rural school graduation in West High. He was an honor student. Hans & I went with Mr & Mrs Ray Roberts to Gay's Mill. Acres of apple orchards. In their cabin, Supper in Boscobel cafe. Brought home rocks for my rock garden. 1939. Up at 3 to get breakfast for Hans and Hilda. They took "Hortense" & my kerosene stove to Amanda; left at 4:30. I slept till nearly 8. S.S. & Church. lovely iris & peonies. At 4 I got Kathryn from Vilas Park at Brandt reunion. Read in "Tamerlane" 19
