July 1 Helped Kathryn can and pick peas but hurt my back again. A sprinkle but no rain. Signe canned kohlrabis—I made 2 chess pies and a custard for E.L pie social, not well attended. 9 Quilt, which 8 Irmcher Aux members came to help quilt. Had chicken dinner—pot luck— with 2 cakes, 2 pies, 2 plates of cookies! 9 Washed for Hans, who went to work after month of "vacation". Clothes did not all [dry?]. Slept an hour. Set out rest of Ames Menlo plants, also violets, 2 cut- leaf sumacs. [illegible] & Rita went to free Univ. band concert in stadium & shopped in "Super Market". 19 Got up, tho it wasn't very good for me. In P.M. helped can 6 qt. peas. K sold 1.69 worth, mostly at 6¢ a lb. K got "Disputed Passage" and "On the Trail of Ancient [Man?]" from Herman. 19
