July 5 19 Very hot. Hottest this summer. Clouds gave relief part of time. [60?] at church. 7 in S.S. class. Read "A Hardy Norseman" by Edna Lyall. 19 102° in some places in Iowa. I got warm canning 2 pt. peas, baking cake and bread. Took Hans to Dubuque for 7 a.m. bus to [illegible] enroute to Washington again. Sat in [yard?] & finished quilt edge. Picked first beans. 19 Cooked first new beets. Signe helped me wash. Mr. McCordic tried to sell me an electric range. Hoed flowers in eve. Wrote 7, but Hilda found Emma Hadley had gone to Iowa for July. 19 Baked bread, wrote Hans, finished crocheting first arm rest. Lucille here in eve. Signe did washing. K and I delivered 1st doz. pints strawberry jam. 19
