July 11 19 106° Baked chess pie & big batch of bread, Hilda cookies. Signe helped deliver $7 baked goods for E.L. fund. We slept outdoors nearly all night. Dyersville in P.M. 19 Clouds give a little relief from heat. Baked currant pies. Drove to Burl. station, Dubuque, for Hans at 11. He and I called on Carl Maxwell's and Randall's in eve. Shower in P.M. 19 Picked berries from 5 to 7. Signe picked peas. Canned 8 qt. peas, 1 of string beans, and 6 pt raspberry jam; baked bread. Letter from Hans, and from Dora. First perennial phlox blooming. 19 Sent cards to [Horswill's?], A. June Day, Mrs. Wolf, & [Quam?] Washed for 1st time in 3 weeks, doing [illegible] rugs and blankets, too. K began Red Cross swimming lessons; I went to Zentner's for [illegible]. Baked raisin bread, hemmed a drape and varnished hall floor. Mrs. Hallock and Dan brought us 4 qt. black raspberries. 19
