AUGUST 18 19 15°. Went with Hans to Dubuque for my glasses, first bifocals, peaches, etc. Home at 10 and blistering hot wind. Ironed, had call from Evans of S.S. union. Took peaches to Pauline. 19 Beatrice married at Little Brown Church in the Vale. We had no way to go. I killed hens which Sig canned, and 2 chickens. WHMS at Warton's in P.M. Ella Burnell gave grand talk on Mexico. Edna M and I each rec'd farewell gift of tatted hdkf. Rex, Dora, Allan, Mary L and Owen and Helen Baird came at 7 - chicken [rump?] and ice cream. 19 Hilda took Miss A. to 7:30 bus for Epworth. I baked cake, K-bread. We canned 9 qt. corn. I dressed chicken, shelled a lot of peas and beans. Card from Dora , Anna; 7 letter from Hans. Still very hard to eat. Wrote 7. 19 We finished ironing. Hilda had sick spell. To Utter's for apples. Frank had sickle welded - Mended. Shortened 2 dresses for girls. K started thin blouse. Wrote Dora 7 and Hans. 19
