SEPTEMBER 13 Pressed my navy georgette suit to wear. [illegible] birthday dinner after we come home from church and S.S. We got 2 more Wolf River apples from Waechter's, Hans picking. Up at 6 now must be the rule. K gets breakfasts. I took Signe and K to East High; begins 8:20. Virginia and Curtis Gunderson are daily passengers. Hilda and I got drivers' licenses and brakes tightened and re-lined. Saw "The Good Earth". Home 6:30: Headache and eye ache. Ironed, baked Kathryn birthday cake, made batch of tomato preserves with pectin (not too hot) and canned 6-1/2 qt. peaches. Finished crocheted doily I began more than [illegible] years ago! No rain over night, but shower in eve. Signe finished working at Hilgers. Recorded heat 97°. I took K and Ruth Utter to begin Freshman Week at the Univ. in H. Ec. - Bought green plaid jacket for Kathryn - At Kelley's in eve to help Guild officers plan yearbooks.
